Flowstone Saga is a retro-JRPG-inspired video game by Impact Gameworks with composer Andrew Luers. The game released 26 September 2024 on Steam and is coming soon to Switch. Flowstone Saga (Original Soundtrack) released 30 April 2024 on Bandcamp and streaming services, and it is also available to purchase on Steam.
Kat Felicis Ioco was part of the music department (additional composition, choir and vocal arrangement, solo vocalist, choir) and worked on four songs. Her contributions took place spring-autumn 2022.
“Inquisitor” (Track 41 / Disc 2 Track 3): additional composition, vocals. Kat wrote all of her parts and enjoyed being able to use her drum-speak in a project.
“Byzankar’s Cunning” (Track 68 / Disc 2 Track 30): vocal arrangement, solo soprano. Kat wrote all of her vocal parts, largely based on Andrew Luers’s pre-existing instrumentation, except for when the beat drops (1:06-1:40). There, she suggested glitching out her vocals and belted a single note for 8 measures twice; Andrew took that concept and her recordings and turned her into a human synthesizer for that section. Doubling the arpeggiated synth run (which fit within her range perfectly) was a fun way to exercise her coloratura.
“The Flowstone Saga” (Track 72 / Disc 2 Track 34): choir arrangement, choir (soprano). Kat was the primary choral arranger for this. Being part of an epic Latin choir in a video game definitely checked an item off her bucket list. This was the last Flowstone Saga song she worked on.
“Byzankar’s Might” (Track 73 / Disc 2 Track 35): choir arrangement, choir (soprano). Kat did what she considers to be additional choir arrangement on this track. The 6th-octave notes were Andrew’s idea, and she happily left them in and sang them. This was the first Flowstone Saga song she worked on.
